ARE Oy – The legal reform brings new responsibilities to housing companies – who is responsible for the smoke alarm?

Changes were made to the Rescue Act at the beginning of the year. 

The responsibility for purchasing and maintaining smoke alarms in apartments will be transferred from residents to building owners from the beginning of 2026.

The transfer of responsibility for smoke alarms to the housing company will improve the safety of the entire property in the future.
