ABB – ABB selected by Statkraft to modernize three Norwegian hydropower plants

• ABB selected to modernize key hydropower assets in Norway’s renewable energy infrastructure
• Project scope includes installation of ABB Ability™ System 800xA® distributed control system, electrical system and UNITROL® 8000 excitation system
• Work will extend the life of three plants to support Norway’s energy security

ABB has been selected by Statkraft AS to upgrade the Vikfalli hydropower complex in Vik municipality, 170 kilometers northeast of Bergen on Norway’s west coast. The group of three plants produce 830 GWh a year, which is enough electricity for approximately 53,000 Norwegian homes.
