OBO Bettermann – OBO continues on its growth path towards its second billion in revenue.
100 million euros for our new logistics center and production expansion in Menden
1,000 square meters of state-of-the-art production expansion are awaiting approval, while 23,000 square meters of logistics, covering an area equivalent to four football fields and representing a total investment of over 100 million euros, will be realized at the German site in Menden.
Our new logistics center went into operation smoothly at the beginning of the year and centrally supplies all OBO locations worldwide from Menden. OBO has expanded by a further 28,000 square meters at its locations in Hungary, Switzerland, Great Britain, and India over the past 16 months, the 79-year-old Chairman of the Board of Directors reported to journalists at the company headquarters on Wednesday (February 4). He then introduced the three long-serving managing directors of the OBO Group, who have worked alongside him for many years to write the success story of one of the world’s leading companies in the field of electrical installation technology.
“OBO is growing both domestically and internationally. With the new logistics center and central warehouse, we can reliably and quickly serve our national and international customers in the long term,” said Bettermann.
State-of-the-art technology and integrated production facilities in the immediate vicinity of the metal competence center, built a decade ago and expanded from 30,000 to 38,000 square meters in 2025, ensure short and sustainable transport routes. A large portion of the electricity is supplied by solar power from the company’s own photovoltaic system, which has been further expanded on the new building. In addition to the existing 40,000 square meters of warehouse space, 23,000 square meters of space with electric transport systems, which operate driverless, have now been added. The office and administrative areas for logistics, employing 105 people, have also been newly constructed.
“Where the German economy has been weak for years, we have once again acted counter-cyclically and invested heavily,” emphasized Ulrich Bettermann.
But OBO also invested €35 million last year in expanded central logistics and production at its largest manufacturing site in Bugyi, near the Hungarian capital, Budapest.
At the Swiss plant, a completely new logistics center was built for CHF 8 million. The subsidiary in Great Britain, previously located in rented premises, had literally outgrown its space. There, too, a completely new plant with an attached logistics center was built. OBO’s Indian location will double in both revenue and floor space this year. OBO USA also moved into new, company-owned premises in 2025 and is growing similarly successfully to its subsidiary in China.
“You never really leave.”
“The course remains clearly set for growth. After reaching the first billion in revenue, we are aiming for the second billion,” said Bettermann.
Operationally, this will now be the responsibility of the company’s three-member management team, consisting of Prof. Dr. Robert Gröning, Christoph Palausch, and Lajos Hernádi, all of whom have been at the company’s helm for many years.
Ulrich Bettermann’s departure from the management board is neither a farewell to work nor, certainly, to the company, whose highest supervisory body he continues to chair as Chairman of the Supervisory Board. The Supervisory Board also includes Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yilmaz from Hagen and former Volkswagen board member Prof. Dr. Jochem Heizmann from Ingolstadt. After nearly six decades with the company, Ulrich Bettermann now says he’ll be taking things a bit easier, but also: “You never really leave completely.”

EMR Additional Notes:
- Supply Chain:
- Network of all the individuals, organizations, resources, activities and technology involved in the creation and sale of a product. A supply chain encompasses everything from the delivery of source materials from the supplier to the manufacturer through to its eventual delivery to the end user.
- At the most fundamental level, Supply Chain Management (SCM) is management of the flow of goods, data, and finances related to a product or service, from the procurement of raw materials to the delivery of the product at its final destination.
- Warehouses, Distribution Center (DC) and Logistic Center:
- Warehouse:
- A warehouse is a facility primarily used for the storage of products and inventory management over longer periods. Its main focus is on efficient storage and safekeeping of goods.
- Distribution Center (DC):
- A Distribution Center (DC), on the other hand, is a facility designed for the efficient and rapid movement of goods. While it does store products, it does so for relatively shorter periods. In addition to storage, a DC offers value-added services such as cross-docking, product mixing, order fulfillment, and packaging to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of products.
- Logistics Center:
- Logistics Center is, in a formal sense, the most comprehensive and strategic of the three. While a warehouse and a distribution center focus on specific functions (storage and distribution), a logistics center focuses on the management of the entire supply chain.
