  • IPO (Initial Public Offering):
    • When a privately held company offers its shares to the public for the first time, the process is known as an Initial Public Offering (IPO). An IPO typically involves the company issuing new shares to raise capital, existing shareholders selling shares, or a combination of both. In essence, an IPO marks a transition from private ownership to a company whose shares are publicly traded and can be bought and sold by public investors. For that reason, the IPO process is sometimes referred to as “going public,” although “going public” more broadly refers to the overall process of becoming a publicly traded company.
